Kroger

2016 Agribusiness of the Year

Kroger started as a neighborhood grocery in 1883 in Cincinnati. The success of that tiny store began a process of growth and expansion that today boasts 2,700 retail locations in 35 states, generating annual sales of well over $100 billion. Kroger’s Kentucky presence totals more than 100 stores statewide, most in Louisville division. Kroger reflects the size and product diversity demanded by today’s shoppers, offering spirits, fuel, pharmacy products and much more.  One of the company’s recent areas of focus is its buy local program.  There are now sections and display racks that promote locally-grown produce and meats from individual producers and regional co-ops. Kroger is a major economic force in Kentucky and Indiana employing 431,000 workers who serve their 8 million customers a day.
