The voice of the diverse agribusiness industry | A Local Economic Engine

The Agribusiness Industry Network in partnership with Greater Louisville Inc, the Louisville area Chamber of Commerce, annually honors a local business with the Agribusiness of the Year Award.

To qualify as an agribusiness, a company must provide agricultural services or buy, sell, process or utilize farm products. They must also be doing business in the Kentuckiana market.

Anyone may nominate a company for consideration. Criteria for the award include: sustained financial growth, overall contribution to our community and excellent employee relations. Nominations for 2018 will be accepted starting January 1st. Deadline for the 2018 nominations is August 7th. You may email mikefeldhaus@twc.com your nominee. We need: name of company, address, contact name and telephone number.

Nominated firms will be contacted by the judging committee and asked to complete a formal application. The committee will then select from among those who complete the application process.

Courtney Farms

2017 Agribusiness of the Year

Courtney Farms is a family-owned and managed producer of vegetables, tobacco and livestock in Shelby County. They currently grow and market some 40 different vegetable varieties, from tomatoes to Swiss chard, eggplant to zucchini. Their products are prepared and consumed in 100 commercial kitchens and retail outlets in the Louisville area alone, including restaurants, groceries, school cafeterias and Kentucky Derby events. The farm is also home to a herd of beef cattle, and this year for the first time they are raising hogs and selling pork locally. Grain production is a part of the Courtneys’ ag portfolio as well used by several nearby bourbon distilleries. Despite the non-stop rigors of their farm operation, the Courtneys find time to participate in leadership roles off the farm including the local Extension board, Farm Credit Mid-America board, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Hunger Task Force Initiative, UK’s Kentucky Ag Leadership Program and serves on a Fish and Wildlife Commission.
